2004 POWDER Video Awards - Breakthrough Performance
Master of Style Pep Fujas wins Breakthrough Performer,
Best Trick at 2004 POWDER Video Awards
by Jen Percy

Pep Fujas enroute to Silver at the 2003 Winter X Games

January 23, 2004:
Although hardly known just two years ago, Pep Fujas has come out of the shadows and put the future of skiing in his profile. Pep has emerged as one of the most diverse and talented skiers on the planet. At no time was this more evident than last season, during his first Winter X Games Slopestyle competition, Fujas injured his knee on a landing in the first run of the finals. By the time he reached the last run, his knee was swelling and hurting badly. Fujas decided to change up his run, landing all tricks switch, saving his knee, and securing the silver.

Landing the cover of both AXIS and POWDER magazines in 2003, making the POWDER Reader Poll for the first time (9th place), and delivering awe-inspiring segments in ski flicks such as Matchstick Production's "Focused" and Poor Boyz Production's "Session 1242," Fujas is quickly emerging as skiing's next superstar. It is not a surprise then that Fujas was presented with Best Breakthrough Performance at this year's POWDER Video Awards at the St. Regis in Aspen, Colorado.

Fujas appeases fans at the 2003 Winter X Games

It was a big night in general for Fujas. The Oakley/K2 skier also won the Award for Best Trick for a 180 off a 30-foot cliff into powder in Poor Boyz Productions Session 1242. Pep will miss the 2004 Winter X Games and filming season with a torn ACL. The presence he established this season will definitely be missed in next season's crop of films.
