Breakthrough Performer

Dana Flahr
Tangerine Dream

I am one of many who have watched from the sidelines. I’ve watched as this Canadian kid went from ski bum to ski extraordinaire. Like so many others that have migrated to Whistler in search of pow and fun, Dana Flahr left his roots in Kamloops, B.C. to find a niche. This niche has not only defined him, but has paved a path that has led to Breakthrough Performance at the 2006 Powder Video Awards with his segment from TGR’s Tangerine Dream.

As one of many roommates in the old Whistler 604 House, I was awoken on countless occasions to Slayer and Angle of Death—a clear sign that Flahr was up and at ’em, ready to take on the slopes long before the coffee had begun to brew. Whether he was bussing tables at night to shred by day, or painting houses in the summer to buy a sled the next winter, Flahr has always shown enviable drive and determination and admirable talent. He’s the kind of guy that would never miss a powder day, choose a chick over fresh turns, or rush his humble success. He loves it, which is why it is of no surprise that he killed it last season—impressing many.

The determination and passion paid off, as this past winter found Flahr filming with TGR for the first time and hanging with some of the best skiers in the world. He spent last season skiing big lines, stomping crazy tricks off huge drops, and filming a segment that would leave viewers amazed. TGR tapped into a talent that was just waiting to break out and shine.

As luck would have it, Flahr blew his knee out this fall during Freshtival. An injury was far from his mind at the time, but after a successful surgery he’s on the road to recovery. With such a great season under his belt, he’s in good spirits—making the best out of his time off skis—and ready to come back stronger than ever. I have no doubt that he’ll return in full force, amazing us all again with another incredible performance and inspirational segment down the road.
