TRIPLE THREAT: EvoGear Hosts Movie Premiere

By Matt Niederhauser

Tonight, November 11, the new EvoGear Seattle store opens its doors officially, but on October 29th “Triple Threat Movie Premiere” goers got a jump start at breaking in the new store while they viewed a veritable plethora of Poorboyz movies including “War,” The Bigger Picture/PBP’s “Pop Yer Bottlez,” and Theory-3/PBP’s “Safety Meeting.” If the event was any indication of things to come, everyone’s in for a great time tonight on Fremont Street.

Evogear Seattle, founded by skier Bryce Phillips, kicked off a month-long flurry of store opening activities with “The Triple Threat”. Other events include art exhibits, photography showcases and movie showings, such as the “TeddyBear Crisis” on November 12th, and Team-13’s latest flick “Echo” on the 16th.

The mayhem on Saturday, Oct. 29 was fueled by attending riders Anthony Boronowski, Kye Peterson, John Symms, Andy Mahre, Zach Davison, Sammy Carlson, Erich Kunz and Riley Leboe. Adding to the cast were K2 Graphic Designer Ryan Schmies, Line Skis Canadian Team/Marketing Manager Jeff Schmuck, professional photographer Ian Coble, and several videographers including Poorboyz editor Matt Schwagler, Theory-3’s Teddy Knape, as well as event promoter/independent filmer Cody Carter (whose work with PBP and Theory-3 was well appreciated by the huge all-ages crowd in attendance).

The movies were shown on Evo’s enormous pull-down screen, while couches, loveseats, and product showcase cabinets provided all the seating areas necessary for an enjoyable viewing experience. “It was great to chance to check out this amazing new ski shop and to once again have a good Poorboyz premiere in Seattle,” said Knape.

The time spent between movies was filled with the public browsing EvoGears’ extensive lifestyle clothing products, the new Armada and K2 hardgoods, in addition to swag giveaways and gear raffles. Meanwhile, many of the industry pros milled about upstairs in the VIP lounge enjoying kegs of beer and Wired Energy Drink cocktails provided by Eric Kleinhoff and the Wired Girls. Product raffled off included a pair of Salomon Foils and K2 Public Enemy’s, and two season passes for Summit-at-Snoqualmie, to some very stoked local skiers.

Since the Triple Threat coincided with Halloween weekend, all attendees were encouraged to dress up in their Halloween best. Some notables included Ryan Schmies, the SuperPig twins, Scuba Steve, a large hairy sasquatch, along with assorted angels, pirates, and utter-bearing cows. The after party was held three blocks away at Nectar, where a live funk band entertained the masses of skiers while providing the backdrop for all sorts of typical industry debauchery—mostly starring young talent.

At the end of the night, event promoter Cody Carter did not turn into a pumpkin, but everyone made sure he was pelted with some rather large pieces. “I was really impressed with the turnout and the way things went,” said Carter. “It was good to get Poorboyz back in Seattle again coupled with a rowdy crowd to stir things up.”

Congratulations to EvoGear and Bryce Phillips for a great store pre-opening! You can check out the place for yourself at 122 NW 36th in Seattle's Fremont district. Check it out at www.evoseattle.com.
