10 MINUTES: With Andy Mahre

Were you ever really into racing?
When I was younger I was, but then I had a really bad season with a lot of crashing. I gave it up in search of more fun. My cousin Tyler was always shredding at White Pass, but he was a bump skier. I was pretty stoked on that and figured I’d try it my own way.

You had a few injuries this winter, how did they change your season?
I started the season with a broken wrist. I had surgery on that in October. Then I broke my back in April. I was doing a speed check on an in-run to a jump. I was hauling ass and caught an edge.

How did the injuries effect your filming with Poor Boyz for Ski Porn?
Actually it worked out really well. From November to January I just skied powder at White Pass without filming; it was pretty hard with the cast. When it came time to film I was ready to go. It went well until I broke my back. I put an end to the season right there. That was my first day filming park and I got hurt. It gave me a lot of time to think about next year.
