For the first time in 25 years, Americans have swept the overall World Cup title. Lindsey Vonn secured the women’s title on Friday, March 14, a day after Miller wrapped up the men’s globe in Bormio, Italy. Neither skier was dominant in their clinching performance; Miller was visibly disappointed in his 12th place Super G finish, while Vonn (formerly Lindsey Kildrow) had to come back from 25th after her first Slalom run to break the top 15 and earn World Cup points. She won the second run and finished 11th overall. Miller and Vonn are the first Americans to take both World Cup globes since Phil Mahre and Tamara McKinney did it in 1983. Their victories highlight a successful race season for Americans, which also featured Ted Ligety winning the G.S. crown and Vonn winning the downhill title.
Vonn and McKinney met with media via conference call on Friday evening. Listen to the audio here.
