ANDREAS HATVEIT: Q&A about Nike ACG "Sweetspots" films

By: Whitney Taylor

Nike ACG “Sweetspots” launched October 1 on nikeacg.com. Make sure to check out the movies from Focus, Level1, Rage, Friday and PoorBoyz with athletes Henning Marthinsen, Andreas Hatveit, Gary Zebrowski, and Richard Permin shredding their favorite places around the world.

Each movie has its own direction depending on the personality of the skier or boarder. “On one hand, we have Andreas putting down a 450 on to 810 off a crazy box setup on top of a shack in Sandpoint, and then on the other, Sverre went and did his thing, blasting through pow in the remote Lyngen Alps,” says Jimmy Goodrich, a P.R. spokesperson for Nike ACG. “He had to sail all the way up the Fjords just to get there.”

Andreas Hatveit sat down to answer questions from POWDER talking about the Nike ACG “Sweetspots” segments. Andreas Hatveit filmed his 2007 “Sweetspot” in Sandpoint, Idaho, with PoorBoyz Productions.

POWDER: How was it filming for the Nike ACG Sweetspots film?

Andreas Hatveit: Super cool. We had so much fun with the filmers and it was so nice to work on a small piece, because it gave us so much focus. I really think the “Sweetspots” idea is a good one. The focus of one moment and one task meant we could get sleds and stuff and this made it easier to film.

Do you think it is a good idea, the two- to- three minute films?

Yeah, I think it is great for the Internet because people like to watch clips and download them to iPods and stuff like that. I also think guys in other sports will check it out because it is short, not like watching a whole DVD, so it is quick and easy to watch if you are not totally into freeskiing or snowboarding. That is good for our sport because we always want a wider audience.

How was the snow and location? What was your favorite part about filming in Sandpoint, Idaho?

This was my first time in Idaho, so I was really stoked to visit a new state. We had a lot of fun there and the best part for sure was obviously hitting that sick rail. The snow was slushy, and slushy snow was easier to crash on, so that was really good on this trip considering the crazy stuff we were trying to lay down.

Why did you choose Sandpoint?

It was all about the feature. I heard about an insane rail setup over a shack—it sounded like so much fun and I was super keen to session it

What was your best line or trick in Sandpoint?

450 on 810 off the rail, my first time ever doing that trick on a rail, so I was really stoked.

What should we expect from your segment?

I hope people get psyched at the tricks that I do in it and that it makes people want to ski more, because I feel a lot of reward when guys come up to me and say they went out and skied after seeing me do something on the Internet or in a movie.

How was the France trip with Marthinsen?

Really good! We were not sure what to expect because it was in the middle of July and you never know how much snow you have to play with at a summer ski resort. But on this occasion, there was enough and the set up was so cool, and we were really stoked when we saw the pictures and film afterwards. It was an all-round great trip.
