Things have been very different at the K2 house for the last few days. K2 conducted a three-day ski test with 20 people and over 20 different pairs of skis. The testing group included a wide variety of people: Tim Petrick, Vice President of Global Sales, the Crist brothers, the T9 Alliance ladies, ski engineers, marketing guys and even two Japanese skiercross racers.
We were out the door each morning at 6:30 and usually on the chair by 7:00. We were in groups of four with four nearly similar pairs of skis. We would take a run, grade the skis on their performance, and switch to the next pair of skis. Once everyone was finished testing their group of skis, we would switch groups. In three days I only skied one group of twin-tipped skis. The rest of the skis were from the Apache line. Testing skis is fun, but I’m not very good at it.
The testing usually ended no later than 10:00. After eating at the Huckleberry, and debriefing test card info, I would grab my skis and head back up to the mountain for some soft snow. The new public park has big jumps, and a few decent rails. The best thing is that it is lapable without any hiking. Be careful if you plan on coming to ride the park. At least two people got hurt fairly bad a few days ago.
