THE MAYOR DISPATCH: Andy Mahre checks in from Hood

Words and Photos By Andy Mahre

Recently christened POWDER.com correspondent Andy Mahre will be providing insightful, witty updates from North America’s most exciting volcano for the summer. The 22-year-old Yakima, Washington, resident is living in Government Camp, Oregon at the top of Mount Hood Highway till the middle of August testing a mittful of K2 skis along with K2’s Todd Bracher. When he’s not editing his new film project, Idea, with Pep Fujas and Eric Pollard or providing research and development for the ’08-’09 K2 Factory line, the Mayor’s out exploring all the fun activities that dominate Hood summers. In addition, he’s heeding the sage advice lent to him by industry veteran Bracher and bolstering his resume as a powder.com correspondent. Listen in and check the out the photos of Mayor Dispatch #1 as he spreads the good word: Powder to the People!

Here we are in the beginning of July. Government Camp is my current place of residence. June offered an abundance of rain, a side of sun, and a few helpings of snow. I’m living in the K2 test house with Todd Bracher. I could go into detailed accounts of my on-hill experiences, but I’d rather share with you a few images of things around the G.C. to give everyone an idea of all there is to do up here off the hill.

So we left the house intending to accomplish unintended things. We immediately rode down toward the bridge to Ski Bowl.

The G.C. was apparently the hot place to be at this hour. Looking up through town.

To my immediate left were a bus and a rock-climbing wall. A guy jumped off the bus hoping to conquer the small task of climbing the wall.

By no means was it a record time, but he was successful.
