REDEMPTION: Jamie Pierre talks about his first descent of an Alaska giant

In April 2007, Jamie Pierre joined Zach and Reggie Crist for a trip to Haines, Alaska. While their goal was to film and shoot (with Rage Films) big heli-assisted descents in the Chilkat Mountain Range, one peak in particular dominated their attention: Mount Emmerich. Also called Cathedral Peak, they had scoped it for several years. One line in particular occupied Pierre ever since his first trip to Alaska four years ago. This year, with conditions perfect, he was able to ski it—a 3,000-foot line with a large cliff in the middle. An account of the descent, penned by Reggie Crist, opens POWDER’s Fall Line section in the recently released September issue. Photographed by Will Wissman, it is one of the most beautiful big-mountain shots to come across the light table so far this year.

POWDER senior editor Matt Hansen caught up with Pierre earlier this summer to ask about the experience. This is what he had to say.
