THE PEP REPORT: Vintner Pep Fujas talks Argentinean wine and skiing

By: Pep Fujas

Pep to Powder, Pep to Powder, come in. Over. I'm in Bariloche, skiing Cerro Cathedral with SASS (South America Snow Sessions). There is overwhelming amounts of powder down here. I need help mashing it up. Over. Scratch that, more for me!

I arrived here on August 9 and have been having way too much fun to be in contact with anyone, let alone do this dispatch. The days are long as there is so much to do.

SASS is amazing. Their philosophy on riding and life experiences coincide with what I believe in, how I ride and how I live my life. Their slogan is, "the mountain is our park". Say no more. After riding we have a bit of time to chill, stretch, and Spanish classes are available. Dinner is at 9pm, tall cervezas are a buck fifty and the vino tinto is unreal. Argentineans really know their wine. After two days, I felt like I was at home riding with all my boys, jumping off of everything on a constant search for more jibs and powder and features to goof around on. Four days before I arrived, it snowed about 3 feet and there were still freshies in the trees to be had. Two days after, it dumped another 2 feet or so. The grin on my face went from big to huge!

As I am writing this, so many memories are popping into my head that deserve to be shared, but I don't have time to write it all. My only advice is to come and experience this place for yourself. The gene pool down here is amazing. Everything is cheap for gringos. The people, for the most part, are friendly and just down to have a good time. And the scenery is that of postcards everywhere I look.

Dash Longe arrived the day after the storm and the second day of the second session. Most of the campers are over 18 and know how to have fun. I've mostly been riding with Garrett Russell, Jordan Seldin, Mauri (last name unknown) and James Heim along with a bunch of rippin’ campers. I came across Garrett one day in Mammoth, shredded all day with him and hadn't seen him since. I mention him, only to say that he kills it everyday and has the biggest smile on his face out of anyone. Okay, now I'm going to stop talking and let some pictures do the work for me.

This is the view from where we have breakfast every morning.

Some goofy Argentinians.

All cabbies are nuts and we are about to pass this car in front of us on a blind corner.
