PTTP 2003 Intro

Welcome to the 2003 PTTP Tour
by Dave Tokaruk
Gabe thinking of a new rhyme

After months of preparation and anticipation, the 2003 Powder to the People Tour finally kicked off in Snowbird on Thursday. We are your tour pilots, Gabe Schroder and Dave Tokaruk, and we were more than happy to stretch out our legs and get things started after two days in Vegas. The show in Vegas was great, but as anyone who has attended the snow sports conference will tell you, back to back nights of raging till 5:00am followed by walking the convention floor all day in search of free gear can destroy even the heartiest of derelicts. So after the six hour drive back to Salt Lake City and a nights rest, we hit the slopes and got the real party started.

Snowbird welcomed us with open arms. High quality skiiers abound in this neck of the woods and we were stoked to be able to share an environment that has produced some of the best. Even though this is supposed to be the worst snow year that Snowbird has seen in decades, we were still able to find lots of fresh, drop some cliffs, and encounter many rippers.

After a morning of shaking the cobwebs out of our brains and draining the lactic from our legs it miraculously started to snow and by the end of the day we were back on our game, just in time for the party we threw at the Tram Club. Something that I have to say about Snowbird is that the people here get behind a good cause. The amount of raffle tickets that we sold exceeded our highest expectations. Just about everybody in the crowd won some quality gear, but the real winner of course was Adaptive Sports, the local charity, as we raised over $550 for their program.

One thing that skiers understand is how rewarding the sport can be. What we don't always realize is that most of us take it for granted. The folks at Adaptive Sports don't and they use their talents to help people that otherwise might not be able to participate in the most amazing sport on the planet. We can't forget to thank the sponsors who donated the prizes such as The North Face, Smith, Volkswagen, Gore Tex and Fox River.

The skiing was so good at the Bird we plan to ski here another day before we take off for our next tour stop. Check us out at Park City this Saturday Feb 1. We will have a free BBQ on the plaza at the base of the lifts in the afternoon, then ramp it up big time for another Video Awards party that night at 9pm at Cisero's, located at the top of Main Street. Get involved, get stoked and get some!
