PTTP 03 - Breckenridge and Vail

brrrrreckenridge.

We finally took a break from the slopes Friday. We had skied everyday for a week and a half and we needed a rest. The tour had brought us to Breckenridge, but the combination of frigid weather and tired bodies kept us from venturing outside. Instead we took in the warmth of a town that truly embraces the idea of hospitality. We were fortunate to stumble across The Cool River Cafe where we enjoyed the help of the friendly staff. They let us set up our computer to do some last minute work then pointed us in the right direction towards the local cybernet cafe. We updated the web page then threw a party at the Quandary Grille. This is an awesome place to enjoy an apres ski beverage, a meal, or some live music. Thanks to the staff that ensured we were in the right spirit for the occasion and special thanks to Gore-Tex and Red Hook who showed up to help with the event. We raised some cash for the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center, partied down to the sounds of Funky Discharge, then skipped town for Vail.

Davenport, gettin some!

Our stop in Vail happened to coincide with the US Open. The talent pool of young jibbers here was undoubtedly amazing, but we are all about skiing, not observing, so we hooked up with Chris Davenport and a host of local rippers to find the deep backcountry of Vail. Smooth, deep turns straight into 30 foot airs. The kind of day you dream about. Everyone left feeling satisfied, but wanting for more. Gabe and I had to cut out after the second lap because we needed to pick up the twenty cases of beer from Red Hook. Sometimes this job can be very demanding, but we are prepared to make the necessary sacrifices for the greater good of the tour. We got back to Vail fully stocked and ready for more, but the next day wouldn't be as successful.
