THE MAHRE REPORT: Andy Recaps North Cascades Trip
Last month I made a trip up to North Cascade Heli Skiing with the Nimbus Independent film crew. The crew consisted of Eric Pollard, Erin Valverde Pollard, Pep Fujas, Ike Smith, Justin Wiegand, Alex O’brien, Bryce Phillips, and myself. For two weeks we were either flying in the heli or riding our snowmobiles. I know what you’re thinking and yes, it was a very very tough time. (Take note of the sarcasm.)
Upon arrival at the heli base, we were greeted with this lovely sight. It had been snowing on and off for the last two weeks, and feet more were expected over the course of the next two weeks. I like stormy weather for the obvious reason. Storms bring snow, which bring pow turns. On the contrary, though, poor visibility means you are stuck skiing in the trees, or you aren’t flying at all. Being on a heli trip, the last thing you want to do is to not fly.
