THE MASSIVE: A report from the World Premiere of Tanner's New Film

Words and Photos: Jamey Voss

As the sun dove behind the peaks outside of Boulder, setting the sky ablaze in pink, the only thing bright enough to contrast against mother nature's evening show was the marquee of the Fox Theatre showcasing the world premiere of Tanner Hall's 2008-09 film The Massive. Despite being a Tuesday night, the kids streamed in droves through the front door of the Fox, and a noticeable buzz of anticipation hung in the air.

Of course, Tanner Hall was on hand to welcome the crowd, which included Colorado pros Pete Olenick, Nick Mercon and ski photographer Flip McCririck. Tanner was rolling with a big crew as well including Ian McIntosh, Ian Provo, and Neil Provo, all riders featured in The Massive. As the movie played, the packed house was transfixed on the screen, and the Reggae soundtrack was only broken by periodic roars from the crowd.

Notable crowd favorite moments included Sean Pettit's ridiculously stylish hand drags and tree jibs, Callum Pettit just straight stepping up and sending some huge airs in technical lines, Ian McIntosh charging like a freight train, and, of course, Tanner Hall's performance in everything from double backflips at Retallack to launching huge spins off the deck of the a massive hip at Mt. Hood.

All in all, The Massive premiere succeeded in delivering some quality pre-season stoke to a huge theatre of die hard skiers. Powder Magazine is the official media sponsor of The Massive, so keep checking in to powder.com and redbullskiing.com/themassive for news and updates on "The Massive" tour.
