Snowbird Receives 63 Inches in 60 Hours!!

12/29/03

Snowbird, Utah - A winter of plentiful powder at Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort received a five-foot boost this week as a powerful winter storm left 63 inches of new snow in 60 hours beginning Christmas Day.

As of the evening of Saturday, Dec. 27, Snowbird's year-to-date snowfall is 252 inches, or 21 feet, and it continues to snow.

"Our Christmas visitors are being treated to not only some of the best conditions in the country but also the best holiday conditions we've had in years," said Snowbird President Bob Bonar. "To open early, have great Thanksgiving conditions and now this for the holidays is a wonderful present."

Snowbird opened for the 2003-04 season eight days ahead of schedule on Nov. 14 with outstanding early season conditions. Little Cottonwood Canyon resorts Snowbird and Alta, which can be skied on one ticket, average 500 inches of annual snowfall.

Due to high avalanche conditions Little Cottonwood Canyon did not open to vehicles Friday, Dec. 26, traditionally one of the busiest ski days of the year. Snowbird opened only the Chickadee and Wilbere chairlifts on Friday, Dec. 26, then offered skiing and riding from the Tram and numerous lifts on Saturday, Dec. 27.
