The Canyons Gets Pummelled
Park City, UT - Three feet of snow has fallen at The Canyons Resort in the past three days, with additional heavy snowfall in the forecast for the weekend.
"It's incredible how much snow we've received," said Scott Pierpont, Managing Director at The Canyons. "This is truly why people come to The Canyons - it is Utah skiing at its best without a doubt," added Pierpont. Pierpont did "product testing" the morning of December 26th to discover thigh-deep powder on nearly every run he took. "I went down Diablo under the Golden Eagle chair and it was steep, deep and provided plenty of face-shots even when I wasn't turning," explained Pierpont with a smile.
The Canyons has received 190 inches of snow so far this season, with 36 of those inches in the past 3 days. The 2003/2004 early season snowfall is more than double that of last year's to date. More notably, November and December's average snow totals are up 200% over the previous decade's average.
The Canyons currently has the most open trails in Utah and is operating 15 lifts over eight mountains. The Canyons Terrain Park is also open, and is now located off of Snow Canyon Express, with eight rails and 3 major hits.
The Flight of The Canyons gondola will be open during the holiday season at 8:30am (instead of 9am) to better accommodate guests, and allow them to use Red Pine Lodge prior to lifts opening at 9am.
