Red Bull ski photography shootout

Jamie Burge & Dave Reddick

Though the results have been out for weeks, the Red Bull Snowthrill of Alaska took the stage at the 2003 POWDER Magazine Reader Poll and Video Awards on Tuesday, January 28, to honor the champions of this first-of-it's kind ski photography shootout. Hosted by Scott Gaffney, the Snowthrill award ceremony acted as the preamble to the third annual Reader Poll and Video Awards, held at The Joint at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Over the course of seven days last winter, twelve skier/photographer teams from all over the globe were allotted film, processing, and heli-time in Haines, Alaska in a unique contest combining the artistry of skiing and photography. Besides slaying powder and lapping up the Alaskan lifestyle, the teams battled over cash prizes in a variety of categories. Winners were formally presented with checks and framed prints of their winning photographs as part POWDER'S yearly ski-film awards show.

Red Bull International awarded teams in three categories as follows:
Red Bull Snowthrill of Alaska Event Shot: Sverre Liliequist and Jean-Marc Favre

Red Bull Action Shot: Hugo Harrison and Ulrich Grill
Red Bull Choice award: Sverre Liliequist and Alexander Klun.
