12/09/03

Williston, Vermont -Garmont is proud to announce Doug and Emily Coombs' choice to ski Garmont Ski mountaineering boots.

Well-known for their steep skiing adventures, Doug and Emily explored many first descents in Alaska's famed Chugach range and pioneered the professional heli-guiding in the area with their famed Valdez Heli-Ski Guides. They are also the owners of Steep Skiing Camps Worldwide, started in 1993 in Jackson, Wyoming now moved to the European Alps with La Grave, France as their base. Doug, the two-time winner of the World Extreme Skiing Championships, is a fully certified UIAGM guide. Doug is often seen in the media, most recently the latest Warren Miller movie and Powder's "Mountain Men".

"Since the introduction of the G-Ride, we've had a dramatic increase in interest in our ski mountaineering boots from professional ski mountaineers, alpine coaches, and ski patrollers." says Garmont Promotions Director Donna Fletcher. Doug Coombs states, "The G-Ride feels and skis like an alpine boot. When at the top staring down a 50-degree descent, there's no need to hesitate. Uphill performance is so comfortable and light that climbing 6000 vertical in day is a breeze."
