WINDELLS SESSION 4: Keeping it real

By Courtney Vermaas
Steven Becker

Over the past week at Mt. Hood it was another goat rodeo of spandex-clad ski racers and rockstar snowboarders dressing as if every day was their last. The session four skiers at Windells separated themselves from the herd at Timberline Ski Area by keeping it real. Campers were supposedly knocking out records set by the seasoned coaches. Tommy Ellingson, SAMMY CARLSON, and TIM DURTSCHI have the record of a 270 onto a 65-foot box with five switch-ups, but an unconfirmed report is claiming seven switch-ups done by one of Ellingson’s campers. Granted, nobody actually saw it. So who really knows what went down.

Returning coaches for session four included Ellingson, Brandon Becker, Ike Smith, X-Games contestant TIM DURTSCHI, and Austin Stevens who’s been rockin’ the clothes from his new company, Saga Outerwear.

Andy Mahre was on the hill testing the 2007-2008 K2 Public Enemy to get the flex pattern dialed in, while Chris Benchetler, MICHELLE PARKER, and PEP FUJAS spent time helping the company test their Apache series skis. Sammy Carlson was also on the hill for a couple days, but spent most of his time leaving bowls of Rice Chex sitting around the Salomon house.

Two young ladies from the Salomon Team have been making a presence with the Windells crew for part of the summer. Sixteen-year-old Molly Ellowitz has been a counselor in training, allowing her to ski in the mornings. Eleven-year-old SALOMON newcomer Maddie “Moo” Eakin came down to Hood from Washington to test out her new equipment and ski with Windells. She was rockin’ the Temptress, a new ski in Salomon’s WOMEN WILL line. Moo spent this four-day trip killin’ it on the 65-foot box, the flat down rail, and spinning over jumps. She’s been working on harder features and is coming back in a couple weeks to keep making progress.
