Bluebird skies made for a perfect finale for the Lake Louise Big Mountain Challenge in Alberta, CA on Saturday.
Temps were on the brisk side but with perfect visibility and not a cloud in sight, the stage was set for the final fifteen men and five woman to charge the last day’s course.
The ER5 zone on the backside of Lake Louise next to the Paradise chair was the stage for the finals. The day started off with the women charging the terrain, sending airs and taking the technical lines with out much hesitation. If you weren’t paying attention to the announcer the woman’s event could have easily meshed into the men’s.
The men’s event was exciting—the ER5 area is home to many huge cliffs, lines and serious potential disaster. The ingredients were all there for competitors create what they wanted. And they did. Stuff was thrown off most every rock, without any serious crashes all day.
At the end of the day, Joel Jacques and Karolina Ekman topped the podium.
Banff was invaded by competitors that evening who flooded the Aurora Night Club for the après party. With a dodgeball event and a snowboard comp after-party going on the same night you can bet it was messy.
