A NEW ASSOCIATE EDITOR IS IN THE HOUSE!
San Clemente, Calif. (May 15th, 2002) POWDER Magazine, the most authoritative voice of passionate skiers for the last 30 years, had to look no further than its own masthead to fill the most recent vacancy on its editorial staff. POWDER has hired long-time contributor and former Senior Correspondent Derek Taylor to fill the position of Associate Editor. A 1993 graduate of Western State College of Colorado, Taylor brings almost a decade of experience in sports journalism to POWDER. In addition to his work as a Senior Correspondent for POWDER, Taylor has covered action sports for a variety of national and international publications, including ESPN the Magazine, Maxim, and the now-defunct Core Sports and Bikini magazines. Since 1999, he has worked for the ESPN X Games and Winter X Games, researching skiing, snowboarding, and freestyle motocross. "Though the ESPN experience was great," says Taylor, "working for POWDER has always been the dream. I got my start in journalism in this building as an intern in 1994, and I'm very excited to be back." "Our backyard is full of incredible talent," says Ben Warner, Publisher of POWDER, AXIS, and BIKE magazines. "And Derek's experience on various national and international levels of publishing made him a natural choice as the Associate Editor." Steve Metcalf, who became POWDER's Editor last January, is just as enthusiastic about working with Derek. "POWDER's involvement in all aspects of skiing really demands an edit staff that can do it all: write, manage, represent, edit, and-most of all-ski," says Metcalf. "We're fortunate to bring Derek on board, as his connections to the industry and to POWDER readers are both longstanding. He can do it all, and more."
