ASPEN, Colo. - Tanner Hall was sitting in fourth place and only a mountain stood between him and X Games Gold.
Hall, as he has done twice before, conquered that mountain with a
near-perfect final run that culminated with a huge air to capture Gold in Ski Slopestyle on Thursday afternoon in front of 7,500 people.
"I'm just stoked that I won one more time," said Hall, who holds Golds in Slopestyle in 2002 and Big Air in 2001. "It shows that I'm on my game. It's a reassuring feeling."
Maybe not so much for roommate Pep Fujas - who must endure a long car ride back to Las Vegas knowing that Hall earned Gold.
"Oh, yeah we planned this," deadpanned Fujas, who had an outstanding run with a score of 91.00.
But it was Hall's big air that helped seal the deal and vault him ahead of the others.
"I was so excited coming into the jump," Hall said. "I knew I was coming in too fast and my legs felt strange in the air. And I hit and my body was all, 'crunch.' But somehow I was fine."
Jon Olsson brought home his third X Games medal with a score of 90.00 as he beat out hometown favorite Steele Spence, who wowed the crowd with a crossup 900 grab.
