Telluride Gets Dumped
TELLURIDE, Colo. - The calendar says August but the weather looks more like November in Telluride. The ski resort in southwest Colorado received its first snowfall of the year. Thanks to an unexpected storm that dropped several inches of snow, the high peaks and the upper runs of the ski area have already switched from their summer greens to winter whites.
Mountain crews measured four inches of snow in Prospect Bowl, 733 acres of new terrain that opened last winter. At 3 p.m., it was still snowing on the upper areas of the mountain. "Winter isn't just around the corner, it is here!" said Gregg Bagni, marketing director for the Telluride Ski & Golf Company (Telski). "Wax your skis and boards and start making plans for a Telluride ski getaway. This is only the beginning."
The Farmers Almanac is calling for heavy snow and colder-than-normal temperatures this winter. "We are predicting a rough winter, with severe weather patterns that gradually shift eastward as the winter progresses," writes Caleb Weatherbee, the pseudonym used by the almanac's forecaster.
Based upon Telluride's unexpected but welcome winter storm, the Farmer's Almanacs predictions are right on track.
