Red Bull Soap Box Race

Fifty Colorado Teams Selected for Debut of Red Bull Soap Box Race

Denver, Colo. - Red Bull has selected fifty teams--ranging from fire breathing dragons to vehicles constructed from salvaged junkyard parts--to participate in the debut of Red Bull Soap Box Race taking place on September 14, 2002 at Invesco Field at Mile High, Denver.

Starting at 11 am, spectators of all ages are encouraged to come down and cheer on the five-man teams representing regions from across the state of Colorado such as Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, Aspen and Vail. Selection was based on submitted applications and sketches provided by each team. Red Bull Soap Box is the only race where fast is good, but outrageous is even better.

Imagine cheering crowds, the smell of burning rubber and an occasional crash or two (better make that twenty). NASCAR®? The Grand Prix of Denver? Not quite. This is a race you've got to see to believe. It's outrageous. It's silly. It's fifty eccentric teams who have spent weeks building their designer soap box vehicles. All soap boxes have to be gravity-powered, meaning no engines, no motors and no fuel. The rules are simple: Each participant is judged on creativity, showmanship and speed down the circuit for a possible total of fifty points. While speed is good, those showmanship points can make or break any close calls. And you guessed it, the highest score wins.

While this is the first Red Bull Soap Box to take place in the US, the event has a rich history from around the world. Over the last ten years Red Bull Soap Box events have taken in place in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, the UK and Australia.

Admission and parking are FREE! A beer garden, food and DJ will be on hand to keep all entertained. For more information on the location visit www.invescofield.com. For information on the event visit www.redbullsoapbox.com.
