Silver Star Gets More...

September 12, 2002

Vernon, B.C. -- Silver Star Mountain Resort is a hive of activity as construction crews bring in towers for installation of their three new lifts, in the resort's unprecedented multi million-dollar lift upgrade. The lift towers and tower heads are brought in by helicopter using a K-Max helicopter with dual opposing rotors and capable of hauling a weight of 6,000 pounds. Once these towers and heads are placed, construction of the upper and lower terminals will commence, followed by the placement of lift huts and completion of lift wiring. Three new lifts are featured in this upgrade consisting of a six-person chairlift, quad chairlift and a T Bar.

The 'Comet Express' is a C$5.2 million high speed, six-passenger Leitner-Poma chairlift and will replace the 11-year-old Vance Creek Quad Chairlift. This new state of the art chair is the largest of it's kind in Canada: 1,763 meters in length and able to carry up to 2,600 skiers and boarders per hour.

The new quad chairlift the 'Powder Gulch Express' is replacing the Putnam Creek Quad Chair. Also a Leitner-Poma chair, this C$4.1 million quad has a length of 2,025 meters, and provides access to Silver Star's award winning black and double black diamond terrain for over 1,600 snow enthusiasts per hour.

The Home Run Tee is the resort's new surface lift, commencing at the top of the Powder Gulch Express, and transporting skiers and boarders to the Vance Creek area of the resort and the Silver Star village.
