Utah's First Snow

September 17, 2002
Socked in at Snowbird: a sure sign of winter on the way.

Snowbird, Utah - Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort received the first snowfall of the season Monday evening when a strong system moved through Little Cottonwood Canyon depositing approximately one inch atop 11,000-foot Hidden Peak. Another significant weather system moving into Utah today is expected to leave similar amounts of snow Tuesday night.

Offering the longest season in Utah, Snowbird is scheduled to open for the 2002-03 season Saturday, Nov. 23. Skiers and riders rode the Tram until Memorial Day last season.

Snowbird recently announced that it will more than double the size of its primary Terrain Park in the Baby Thunder area as well as add features near the Big Emma halfpipe and beginner features on the Chickadee run.

Snowbird has hired veteran park designer Keith Pfahler, who has built parks at Whistler-Blackcomb, Big Bear and Mountain High, to design Snowbird's expanded terrain park offerings. Now with three parks to choose from, Snowbird will offer a playground for jibbers and huckers of every skill level.

Located 29 miles from Salt Lake International Airport, Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort is North America's most accessible year-round resort. For the latest information and updated photos from the mountain, go to www.snowbird.com.
