Daron Rahlves Signs With Giro

September 11

Giro Sport Design, the market leader in performance wintersport helmets, announced that U.S. Ski team star Daron Rahlves has signed a three-year endorsement deal with the company. After redefining the Freestyle/Freeride helmet category with the Nine.9 model, Giro has set its sights on the racing category. Rahlves has already begun testing new helmet designs that he will use in the upcoming World Cup season.

"I'm stoked to be part of the Giro family," says Rahlves. "I like to be involved with innovative companies that put themselves on the line like I do on skis." 2003 was a breakout year for Rahlves. He joined the U.S. Ski team in1993 and has now become one of the world's best top alpine skiers. In 2001 Rahlves became the SG World Champion. He also had seven podium finishes in 2003, including a gold medal at the prestigious Hahnenkamm downhill in Kitzbuhel, Austria and ranked second in downhill and sixth overall for the 2002/2003 World Cup season; this was the best finish ever by an American downhill skier.

Striving to excel at every discipline that he is a part of, Rahlves continues training year round while having fun riding motocross, water skiing, wake boarding and mountain biking in Lake Tahoe, California. "That kind of stuff helps Daron come into the season firing on all cylinders, "says DH/SG Coach John McBride. Giro spokesperson Chuck Platt added, "Part of our job is to keep Daron safe during the off-season".

In July 2003, Rahlves traveled with Giro's design team to the Texas AandM wind tunnel where they tested several new, innovative helmet designs and concepts. Giro is known to push technology and styling with new helmet designs and is using this knowledge in the pursuit of the world's fastest alpine helmet. "It's nice to work with one of the best alpine skiers and get his valuable input on our up-coming helmet," says Platt.

Rahlves joins a Giro team that includes 5-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, World Champion mountain biker Roland Green and X-Games champion Tanner Hall. "Giro supplies the best helmet products as far as style, safety, and performance," says Rahlves. "And Giro has a vision to be the best. It's the same goal I strive for".
