From Corbet’s Cabin to Cody Ridge to Powder 8 Face, a crowd gathered in the Jackson Hole backcountry on Thursday morning to watch Erik Roner lay down a new line on Cody Peak. Roner down-climbed off the peak through two cliff bands, a rope attached to his BASE rig chest harness. Then, right on queue, the skies clouded up, leaving Roner standing on the exposed face, freezing, waiting for a window of light. After about an hour and a half, the skies cleared. Roner skied 300 feet in about four turns, sent the 240 footer skier’s right on Central Couloir, and threw his pilot. The chute deployed perfectly, and Roner glided down to the cheering crowd.
