Pete Alport teamed up with local welder Calvin Andrus and the Skjersaa's crew to put on Central Oregon's 6th Rage Films’ rail jam on Friday, November 11. The setup consisted of a nearly vertical drop-in from the 20 foot scaffolding onto two huge packing crates (for the flat) and then to the riders choice of a flat-down rail or a flat-down-flat rail. The snow was kindly provided by mother nature and a little relocating work, courtesy of the crew.
The crowd began to gather long before the setup was complete and
continued to grow throughout the competition. The attendance could be
attributed to the overwhelming stoke brought on with recent early-season
dumps and the fact that the set-up had been sitting ominously in the
Skjersaa's parking lot for over a week. Either way, the lot was filled
with spectators in puffy coats bobbing their heads to the beats of DJ
Barisone and cheering the on-snow action.
The competition was in jam format, so the riders could hit the rails as many times as they wanted during each heat. Sammy Carlson, Tim Durtschi, and Kyler Cooley threw down the best tricks in their respective heats and moved on to the finals.
Many of the riders traveled to compete, including a car full of Utah Rippers, Klyer Cooley, Tim Durtschi, John Simms, and Vail, Colorado rider, John Spriggs. Cooley managed to win the prize purse of $1500 with a blindside switchup to 270 out in the finals.
Thanks to Pete Alport and RAGE FILMS constant dedication to the sport and SKJERSAA'S support of the local scene, the rail jam proved yet another successful Bend, Oregon event.
