SUMMIT COUNTY STORM: Vail, Breckenridge, Keystone get 3 feet
A blizzard pummeled Colorado ski resorts - Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone - with more than two feet of snow in the past four days shutting down parts of Interstate 70 and other major roads, but giving skiers and riders their fourth consecutive powder day at Breckenridge and Keystone.
Breckenridge and Keystone opened Friday for the season with a late afternoon winter storm. The system stalled out over the resorts dumping almost three feet at Breckenridge and more than two feet at Keystone and providing the best early-season conditions in recent memory.
The new snow and colder temperatures for snowmaking are allowing Keystone and Breckenridge to open more terrain including North Peak this week. In addition, weekend skiers will be able to ski ride of Breck's Peak 9 terrain with access on the Quicksilver, Mercury and Beaver Run Superchairs. At Keystone, skiers and riders can maximize their time on the new terrain this weekend with the 36 Hours of Keystone - an event featuring 36 nonstop hours of skiing, riding and celebrating Nov. 18-19.
More than 40 inches of fresh snow blanketed the slopes of Vail just in time to welcome the 2005.2006 season Friday, Nov. 18.
