POWDERMAG.COM - 2003 POWDER TO THE PEOPLE
PTTP03 - Copper Mountain
by Dave Tokaruk

Booyah!

We rolled into Copper very late on Monday evening. We were supposed to leave early and be here before nightfall, but a total of 28 inches fell at Alta and we decided that it would be in our best interest to investigate before we departed the Salt Lake City region. So we left Utah at around one in the afternoon with huge smiles on our faces and a van stuffed with swag to give to the fair people of Colorado. The accomodations here are amazing. We lodged at Taylor's Crossing, one of the many luxurous hotels that are slopeside here, and after a much needed nights rest in very comfortable beds we got up and hit the mountain.

Our stay in Copper happened to coincide with the WWSRA, a huge demo session where all of the ski manufactuers show off their latest and greatest ski technology. So we put away our skis for a few days and sessioned on whatever our hearts desired. Of course that consisted of grabbing up the best fat skis and ripping the high alpine bowls that were freshly covered by a new blanket snow. We found the best turns in Spalding bowl and the trees stayed soft for the duration of our stay. There were tons of reps and pros to ski with, and Gabe and I teamed up with all sorts of rippers to mount a full assult on Copper's ample terrain.

The party we threw on Tuesday night at Endo's was priceless. The folks from Volkl warmed the crowd up for us. They threw a dinner and offered free drinks for the revelers. If that wasn't enough to loosen up the joint, scantily clad babes jumped up on the bar and threw swag to crowd. The place was amped by the time we were ready to roll and our swag was disolved into the crowd at a frenzied pace. To top it all off Super G rocked the house with some freestyle ski rap then set the dance floor into a tizzy. The DJ took over and a drunken dancing mele continued until the end of the evening.

Gabe and I would like to give a shout out to the friendly staff at Copper that bent over backwards to make sure we were well taken care of at all times. A special thanks as well to Hal from Salomon, who invited us to dinner with the biggest wigs of Salomon France and Salomon North America. We enjoyed a wicked meal at the Indian motorcycle restaurant and a schooling by Chris Davenport on the pool tables. Aside from Adam the punk bartenter at Endo's who copped an attitude when we were trying to retrieve our stolen banner, we loved Copper and hope to return soon.
