Klaus Obermeyer presents the Full Throttle Award to Shane McConkey

We were not even two hours into the 2004 Powder to the People Tour when the heat tracked us down.
"You ain't from California are you?"
"No officer."
"Well, you were supposed to be doing 55mph in the slow lane and you were doing 80 mph in the fast lane." Apparently, in the Golden state, our brand new Volkswagen Touareg with trailer in tow is a speed-restricted vehicle. A stern warning and two hours later we were screaming across the midnight desert with our hair on fire and our sights set on the grand ceremony for the 2004 POWDER Video Awards at the X-Games in Aspen.
We pulled the Touareg, laden with 30 cases of Red Hook beer, up on the sidewalk in front of the swank St. Regis Hotel. The scene was set as the athletes, moviemakers, and industry players began pouring into the ballroom for the PVAs premiere in the mountains.
Will Burks accepts the award for Best Powder

The awards were sprinkled with antics ranging from a bare chested Will Burks, to Jamie Pierre dropping his pants, to some freestyle yodeling by octegenarian ripper Klaus Obermeyer. Some lucky attendees won Salomon skis and The North Face gear and the overall vibe was nuts. Check out the full report on the PVAs at POWDERmag.com.
As we leave town the snow comes in hard, closing the airport, snarling traffic, and giving the 2004 PTTP fresh-o-meter its first few inches. Next up, fresh tracks at Copper Mountain and another video awards party at Barkley's in Frisco Monday, Jan 26 at 9:00pm.
