The liftie gazed up at 12,441 foot Copper Peak and said, "It's 10 below up top, I'm glad I'm not up there." He looked at us a bit cock-eyed like we were crazed, but nonetheless gently bumped the chair that would continue our ascent to the highest point on Copper Mountain.
The Powder to the People Tour's second stop found frigid temperatures and relentless winds, but Mother Nature could not keep us from enjoying ourselves at Copper. Upon reaching the top of the Storm Peak Poma, we found a newly opened Spaulding Bowl with four inches of the fresh and we proceeded to lay tracks. The snow was a welcome relief to Coloradoans who have been suffering from a snow drought since the New Year. The skiing underneath the Sierra Lift was especially good as well as some powder coated high speed groomers on the East side of the mountain.
Amidst the towering torches in The Village at Copper, we pulled our Volkswagen Touareg up on to the snow to give out POWDER magazines and stickers, and to tell all those brave enough to venture into subzero temperatures about our party that night in Frisco.

The party was downstairs at Barkley's and the bar was filled with locals looking for a cure to the Monday blues. It was provided in the form of the Powder Video Awards, Red Hook drafts, and schwag a plenty. Smith beanies, T-shirts, and a wide variety of Red Hook Beer paraphernalia was tossed to the crowd and one lucky local, Ben Chilton, walked away with a pair of Salomon Teneighty skis.
The party raised $320 for the Frisco Interracial Resource Center and, fueled by a $2 Red Hook special, raged late into the night. Catch the PTTP Tour next at the Tugboat in Steamboat, Colorado.
